What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor customer service submissions may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

SMS Messages

If you opt-in to receive SMS messages from us, we may collect and process personal data related to these services. This can include your mobile phone number, your carrier's name, the date, time, and content of your messages, as well as other information you provide.

We use this information to send you SMS messages, respond to your inquiries, fulfill your requests, provide customer service, and to improve our services. We may also use this data to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent misuse of our services, and to enforce our agreements.

We retain this data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected unless otherwise required by law. The period of retention depends on the type of data and the purpose for which it is used.

You have rights over your personal data collected through SMS services. You can request access to your personal data, correction of your personal data, deletion of your personal data, restriction on the processing of your personal data, object to the processing of your personal data, or request data portability. However, we may not accommodate a request to erase personal data if we are required to keep it for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

To opt-out of receiving SMS messages from us, you can follow the instructions provided in our messages, or contact us directly. Note that opting out of receiving SMS messages may impact the use and enjoyment of our services.

We implement security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Despite these efforts, we cannot fully guarantee the security of the information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.

Your personal data collected through SMS services may be shared with third-party service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as sending out SMS messages. These third parties are contractually obligated to use your personal data only to the extent necessary to perform these functions and are subject to confidentiality obligations.

Please note that if you reside outside the United States, your data collected through SMS services may be processed and stored in the United States. By using our services and providing us with information, you consent to this transfer, processing, and storage of your information in the United States.

Changes to this Policy We may update our privacy policy from time to time. Any changes to this policy will be posted on this page, and where appropriate, notified to you by SMS, so we encourage you to check this page periodically. Continued use of our services after any such updates constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
